Driving Test Changes

Changes to the driving test are coming, but no dates have been announced yet. Drive Fareham will keep our pupils updated when further announcements are made.

After trials runs and consultations, the expected changes are likely to include:

Increasing the existing ‘independent driving’ part of the test from 10 to 20 minutes.
Due to a huge increase in use of GPS technology, following sat-nav directions will be included in the independent driving section of the test.

For the first time, one of two vehicle safety questions (better known as ‘show me, tell me’) will be asked when the candidate is driving.

But a relief for many, as the dreaded ‘reverse around a corner’ manoeuvre, plus the ‘turn in the road’ will be replaced with what are considered more real-life driving scenarios, such as driving into and reversing out of a parking bay.
